Melting Snow and Floods Homeowners Insurance

After a heavy snow comes water.  When a massive amount of snow melts, it can cause flooded areas outside that seep into your home. When this type of snow damage occurs, it is not covered by a standard homeowner’s insurance policy.

Flood insurance policy can solve this problem. If you’re not prepared, water damage can do permanent structural damage to your home. Flood insurance covers nearly every type of problem caused by water outside the home. If your basement floods regularly, it can result in long term damage to the building and even reduce your property value. Most flood insurance policies do not cover the contents of a basement, while the structure itself is covered.

The melting snow damage won’t be covered completely by any insurance policy. Melting snow especially presents potential hazards for flooding that you should watch for.
